FILM STUDIO
20 years of inclusive filmmaking
Zeno has been making films since 2005. All of our movies are made with a fully integrated cast and crew. What began as “gorilla style”, annual short films, has evolved into high-production documentaries and feature-length films. These projects have toured the world at festivals and are often packed with celebrity cameos. In 2020 Zeno’s feature-length musical Best Summer Ever was a NYT critics pick, and it premiered at SXSW, where it won best screenplay.
Zeno has become the go-to organization to consult with when filmmakers make content that includes disabled characters and themes. We regularly collaborate with like-minded projects and these have included: The Peanut Butter Falcon and Speechless.
Our goal has always been to first create great art that is entertaining and shares the wonderful, creative world we know within Zeno. The result is that viewers are challenged to confront their biases around disability. Typically, when Hollywood attempts to tackle the subject, it makes sappy, disability-centered films with a non-disabled actor pretending to be disabled. At Zeno, we flip the script. We make quirky, joyful films that are not about disability but star actual disabled actors.
